Participants from Bath Rugby Foundation's HITZ initiative visited the Chippenham-based firm to hear from employees about the company’s renewable mission and their roles, before visiting one of its solar farms in Wiltshire.

Josh, one of the HITZ programme participants, said: “It was really interesting to find out about renewable energy, as I have often heard about it, but never really paid much attention. Seeing the solar farm was great, and having the staff talk to us about what they do and how they got there was really good too. It makes me think that I could go down the same path, and find work in something like renewable energy one day.”

Juliet Love, Head of People Development at Good Energy, said: “It’s been fantastic welcoming some of the HITZ members into our offices, giving them a chance to hear from some of our younger members of staff about their career paths and how they got there.

”Like HITZ, developing and providing opportunities for young people is a big part of Good Energy’s ethos, so we relished in the chance to give an insight into our world and what we have to offer.”

Tom Dunn, Bath Rugby player and HITZ Ambassador, who visited the solar farm with the students, said, “Good Energy have given the guys a brilliant opportunity today to get a chance to see what the company does and how an office like this works – not to mention getting time to talk face to face with staff at the company. This is so important for their development. I’m really pleased I could come out today, and go to the solar farm – it was an interesting experience for me too!”

Stephen Barber, HITZ Officer at the Bath Rugby Foundation also commented saying: “We’ve had a great day out at Good Energy today. They really put out all the stops to show the guys what the world of work is like – and how technical and exciting renewable energy can be. It’s great for a local company to want to engage with vulnerable young people – I hope we can continue working with Good Energy in future”.

The HITZ programme works with young people near Bath who are not in education, employment or training, helping to build their confidence and get them back on track. This includes working with local employers, like Good Energy, to open participant’s eyes to the diverse opportunities on their door step.

For every home or business who switches to Good Energy quoting ‘Bath Rugby’, Good Energy will donate £50 to the Bath Rugby Foundation, helping to enhance the lives of children and young people in the local area through initiatives like the HITZ programme.
