There were no tries scored from either side on a wet Wednesday evening, with the only points coming from the reliable boot of Exeter fly-half Harry Bazalgette.

Kick exits and playing in the wrong position of the field allowed Exeter to apply pressure on the Bath defence, which led to numerous moments of ill- discipline from the Blue and Gold.

Bazalgette slotted over six of his seven penalty attempts to secure an 18-0 victory, with the battling home side ruing a number of missed opportunities to get on the scoresheet in the second-half.

The first-half was played in heavy rain and predominantly a midfield battle, with neither team able to put pressure on the opposition line.

Exeter did manage to force four penalties in difficult conditions, all of them slotted over by Bazalgette, while Tom Pittman was just off target with his solitary effort at the other end as the visitors took a 12-0 lead into the break.

Bath's notable moment came in the 14th minute when the hosts, already without the Bath Rugby Academy contingent ahead of this weekend’s Bath United fixture against Saracens Storm, lost both captain Jordan Martin and prop Tom Rowland to injury.

Bazalgette added another penalty two minutes into the second-half but it was Bath who finally put together a sustained spell of pressure, setting up camp on the Exeter line for almost ten minutes.

They forced a series of penalties and line-outs but the visitors, despite losing centre Kieran Kelly to the sin-bin, were able to stand firm and eventually cleared their lines.

The Blue and Gold continued to battle away, producing a couple of incisive line breaks to set up good attacking positions, but they were unable to make the most of them and it was Exeter who sealed the points when Bazalgette kicked his sixth penalty of the evening.

Louis Messer, Academy Pathway Coach said: "Despite the frustrating result from last week, I thought we built on parts of our game throughout the week and that was really evident against Exeter. However, against a team like Exeter, the consistency of doing this for a full 80-minutes is what our side lacked yesterday."

Bath’s home run continues next Wednesday 4th December as they entertain Northumbria in the third of four successive matches at the Sports Training Village.
