The scoreline of 52-21 was perhaps slightly flattering on the hosts, but it was a case of taking opportunities when they were presented against the opposite.

Bath started well and had various entries into Sarries’ five-metre, though found a strong red wall in their way.

Rory Crum and Henry Bartlett combined smartly down the left and the forwards trundled on to make ground. Pressure turned into points for the Blue, Black and White who finished off a flowing attack from close range via Connor Treacey.

Consistency was present in Bath’s attacking game as Bartlett was hauled down close to the line. However on turnover ball, Saracens managed to go the length of the field to level the game at 7-7.

Thereafter, they continued to add points on the board. The hosts’ left wing hit a great line to sprint under the sticks before playing his part in a penalty try awarded for a high tackle close to the line.

Saracens’ full-back and wing combined once again with the latter scooting over for his hat-trick.

Just before half-time, Bath replied to half the deficit. A powerful rolling maul resulted in Luke Boyt burrowing home while James Linegar added his second conversion from a wide angle.

In the second half, Sarries’ danger men - the full-back and wing - linked up for the wing to cross again before Bath showed some promise.

Linegar and Will Dudman made breaks in behind the home defence as did replacement Will Howells.

Saracens made similar jaunts beyond the Bath backline but finished off through their right wing and then their 6ft 7 second row. The wing then collected a loose ball, bouncing ball to sprint in from distance to make it 52 points on the board.

Bath rallied and stuck in the contest until the very end. They were rewarded for their continuous effort when Charlie Ward displayed great strength to drive over with Linegar adding his third kick.

Whilst the final result was disappointing, it was a spirited display from the Under-18s who were missing a number of players and fielded a very young side.

The Academy League will now take a break until January 2023.
