Prior to joining the Club, Tony served with the Westminster Dragoons during the Second World War and was subsequently awarded one of the highest military decorations – the Military Cross for rescuing an injured comrade in the Netherlands.

He was also the recipient of the Legion d’Honneur – France’s highest order of merit instituted by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802.

Having studied at Oxford University, Tony moved to Bath at the age of 27 in 1948, where he completed his articles with Stone King Solicitors, who to this day are still based in Queen Square. It was in the same year he made his debut for Bath Rugby against Stroud with the final of his 45 appearances coming against Weston Super Mare in September 1949.

Tony was also a distinguished cricketer, with his greatest achievement coming in 1946 when he bowled out Yorkshire and England great Sir Leonard Hutton.
