Defence and attack married up and the fans roared their side forward to a 36-19 victory.

“We thought it was one of our better performances of the season,” Head of Rugby Johann van Graan said.

“We reviewed that game, took the good things out of it, focused on some work ons and now we’re looking forward to Friday night (v Gloucester).

“It’s a big derby game for us. I thought Gloucester were fantastic against La Rochelle; they’re good side who have put in good performances over the season.

“Kingsholm is a great place to go and play rugby. You are in the game for nights like Friday night.”

The team have had some time off since the Exeter game before returning to training at the end of last week.

For van Graan, it is about backing up their display in another West Country outing against Gloucester.

“Throughout the team we had consistency and played really well against Exeter. We won’t get carried away. We asked for a performance and we certainly gave that.

“It’s time to back that up now. It has been a full two weeks but we’re fresh and ready to go.”

A player who has quickly become synonymous with the Cherry and Whites, Gloucester captain Lewis Ludlow is a key member of their squad. The flanker boasts some impressive stats, having finished the 2020/21 season as the Premiership’s top tackler, making 280 tackles throughout the season. His consistency is equally impressive, with his form continuing into the following season where he finished second for tackles completed, beating his previous tally with 298 tackles. Last season Ludlow featured in 22 of their 24 Premiership games.
