The 19 year-old starts at full-back in England's opener against Grand Slam winners Ireland and admits he was delighted to get the call-up to play for his country.

“I’m buzzing – I was really proud when I got the text (to confirm his place in the squad) and I can’t wait to get out there with the boys and show what we can do,” de Glanville said.

The Bath Academy product featured in the U20 Six Nations this year and has impressed for Bath United during the 2018/19 season with some stand-out displays in the Premiership Rugby Shield.

England will face Ireland, Italy and Australia in the Pool Stages and de Glanville is relishing the prospect of coming up against some of the best teams in the world. However, the versatile back isn't getting too far ahead of himself, with the immediate focus on tomorrow evening's clash.

“I am really looking forward to it - especially to come up against the Southern Hemisphere teams as I have never played against them. I am excited to see what will pan out from that and with it being such a big tournament.

“It would be very easy for us to think of the end product, but we have Ireland in our first game and they are Grand Slam winners. We can’t really look much further than that.”

Steve Bates’ side will play four games in eight days, but de Glanville is confident that the 28-man squad have the quality in depth to overcome the challenges that lie in front of them. Having appeared in the last six finals, the Bath Rugby Academy product is well aware of the pressures that come with playing for a side with a rich history in the competition.

“It’s important that we look at each game as it comes. We’ve got a good group and a big squad, which is important. We’ve got a number of players that can play in different positions, and with the games being so close together, that’s going to ensure that we’re fresh and ready to go.

“The pressure is there but the boys ultimately do know that we have to put performances out there. I think that it’s a healthy mindset to have, if we go out there with the intentions to win then I don’t see why we can’t.”
