New Zealand 23-13 South Africa - saturday

Billed as two of the favourites for the Rugby World Cup, South Africa took on reigning World Champions New Zealand in Yokohama.

First half tries from George Bridge and Scott Barrett put the All Blacks in the ascendancy at half-time leading 17-3. Despite, a spirited second-half fight back from the Springboks and Louw, who entered the fray in the 50^th minute, it was New Zealand that came out 23-13 winners.

England 35-3 Tonga - Sunday

Eddie Jones’ side got their campaign underway with a hard-fought victory against Tonga. Underhill and Watson featured from the start, as Manu Tuilagi scored a first half double to send England into the interval 18-3 ahead.

Jamie George put the contest beyond doubt, as the Saracens hooker rumbled over from a well-executed maul. Joseph was the architect behind England’s bonus-point try, as the Bath centre burst his way through the Tonga defence before offloading to fellow replacement Luke Cowan-Dickie to score and complete a 35-3 win.
